IVF 2 Results

Most of you probably already know, but our second IVF did not end well. On Friday, we got blood test results that we were pregnant! It was a low number though – technically, anything over 10 is considered pregnant and we were at a 20. However, the test was done about 2 days earlier than normal so they thought it could have been low simply due to the date.

They congratulated us and said they’d like to see us back for a blood test again on Tuesday and wanted to see the numbers more than double. Our follow-up appointment on the 24th was changed to an OB appointment.

We were cautiously optimistic. We knew it could go either way. That it could turn into a happy, healthy pregnancy, or it could go the other way.

Unfortunately, when they drew my blood yesterday, we got news that my levels had dropped below 5 and we had what was called a chemical pregnancy. You can read more about it here, but it’s basically a very very early miscarriage. Many people have them and actually don’t even realize it. We talked to our doctor today and she said the good news is that my body can accept an embryo {we were not really sure before}. Unfortunately, chemical pregnancies/miscarriages are very common and it was likely a genetic factor versus my uterus or ability to carry a child. It’s not fair, for anyone, and there are really no good words for it.

Overall, it’s upsetting and we had a lot of hope riding on that one embryo, especially after learning it initially resulted in pregnancy. As cautious as you are, you always hope.

We had a follow up appointment with the doctor today and we think we have a plan. We’ll share soon.

As always, thank you for the constant check-ins, prayers, support and love. We couldn’t do any of this without our family and friends.

  1. I am so sorry! I was praying for positive results for you and your husband. I just went through a similar situation. My husband and I have been trying for 5+ years and we finally got a positive pregnancy test. Only to learn that our baby stopped growing at 6 weeks.

You’re story is very inspiring and I love following it. You are in my thoughts and I’m praying everything goes well for you!!
